• Replace # pytype: disable suppressions with # pyrefly: ignore

  #3624·copybara-service[bot] opened Oct 6, 2026Bot·

  ·

• When a worker raises an unhandled exception after jax.distributed.initialize() completes, JAX's @atexit handler invokes jax.distributed.shutdown(), which blocks the exiting process on XLA's Shutdown barrier until all processes reach shutdown or the shutdown timeout expires (300 seconds by default). Because multi-tier checkpointing initializes the JAX distributed runtime internally, callers previously could not configure shutdown_timeout_seconds to fail fast on fatal worker or replicator errors.
